Abstract. The article examines the issue on the character of the transformation of the international political-economic order against the background of China’s economic weight growing and the institutions expansion, in which creation and promoting it plays a key role – the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, the enlarged BRICS, and the cross-border yuan settlement system CIPS. Drawing on the comparison of theoretical models of world order (liberal institutionalist, realist, and the Chinese school of moral realism), and statistical data from the Interational Monetary Fund, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, BRICS, RCEP, and SWIFT for the period 2001–2024, the author shows that China’s institutional and currency expansion is predominantly parallel rather than substitutive nature with respect to the Bretton Woods architecture. The work concludes that at the present stage, the observed dynamics are more accurately described as a parallel institutional building: new mechanisms complement the existing institutions but do not replace their basic rules.
