Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of key trends in world politics and its projection in the regional dimension. Three main competitive areas are identified in Central Asia where competition currently unfolds between non-regional players. They are the struggle for rare metals, transport communications, and technological advantages. It is shown that in the context of increasing inter-state competition the Central Asian country, the efforts to diversify their foreign policy and foreign economic relations are intensified balancing between non-regional players. It is concluded that the process of transformation of the global political order is under way, and the trends of the global scale are projected in the regional contours. Central Asia, which is a strategically important space in global politics, reflects the projection of all those processes and changes in configurations that are usual for the current stage of development of international relations. The region’s model of foreign policy behaviour contributes to the creation of a polycentric world order but at the same time, it risks turning from a stabilization tool into a vulnerability because of the intensification of external players’ means for influence.
